New Wave Academy’s Annual Patterns Competition

On June 27, 2011, New Wave Academy successfully hosted its inaugural annual patterns (poomsae) competition, marking a significant milestone in the organisation's history.

Poomsae, a fundamental aspect of Taekwondo, consists of predetermined sequences of defensive and offensive movements that progressively increase in complexity as practitioners advance in their martial arts journey. Typically, each belt level involves mastering a new poomsae, with eight designated for Kup grades (coloured belts) and an additional nine for Dan grades (black belts).

The event brought together dedicated New Wave students from various locations and schools, uniting them in friendly yet competitive spirits as they showcased their prowess in both individual and team events. This annual competition serves as a platform for New Wave clubs to converge, providing an opportunity for participants to exhibit their hard work, skills, and dedication cultivated through rigorous training sessions.

With over 100 students participating, the competition served as a noteworthy milestone for many, especially those experiencing their first-ever Taekwondo competition. Congratulations are extended to all participants, acknowledging their commitment, tireless efforts, and the impressive display of skill. It is a testament to the thriving spirit and collective strength of the New Wave Taekwondo community.
